Does American’s Got Talent have a chance?

Americans do have talent. Nobody who stuck with “America’s Got Talent” last summer would argue with that: $1 million winner Bianca Ryan, the little girl with the big voice, is talented by any measure.
But talent isn’t really the point of “Talent.” The competition show became a hit in its first edition by showcasing the odd, the eccentric and the appalling. “The Gong Show” meets “Stupid Human Tricks,” with squabbling judges and a chance to vote. What’s not to like?
Not much will change in the second season, except for the furniture. Jerry Springer, who began an image rehab (shock broker to cuddly grandpa) on “Dancing With the Stars,” replaces Regis Philbin as host. Too-nice Brandy gives up her seat at the judging table to Sharon Osbourne, who joins Piers Morgan (the Simon Cowell) and David Hasselhoff (the Paula Abdul).
The first four episodes recap auditions held around the country, with the judges deciding which singers, dancers, magicians and mimes make it to a Las Vegas boot camp at which “they will have a chance to perfect their craft.” For the semifinals, viewers will vote.
